About the KIND News Program and Educational Presentations

CATsNAP and Champaign County Animal Control have teamed up to offer free educational programs to schools, clubs, or organizations.  It is our belief that educating children from an early age about pet overpopulation and animal safety will help them to become responsible pet guardians when they are older.

Program Types

One Time Presentation: Depending on the audience, we have programs to meet any needs.  We focus on animal needs, dog and cat safety, bite education, and the need to spay/neuter.  Programs may be taught by an animal control officer, veterinarian, and/or approved humane investigator.  Talks are generally about 30 minutes in length and may include animals.  Please email us for more information or to schedule an educational program.  Alternatively, you may leave us a voicemail message at217-353-5243.  A volunteer will return your call.

Sponsor-a-Classroom:
This school year, CATSNAP is reaching Champaign County's youngest citizens with lessons in responsible pet care. CATSNAP is providing elementary school classrooms with the children's newspaper KIND News and accompanying materials to help teachers encourage good character in children. The award-winning newspaper teaches children about kindness and respect for people, animals, and the environment through articles, activities, short stories, projects, and puzzles.  CATSNAP is seeking individuals to adopt more classrooms to achieve its goal of reaching every second-grade classroom with lessons in kindness.  Donors may select a specific classroom to receive these materials or CATSNAP can make the selection from their list of classrooms waiting to be adopted. Each $30 tax-deductible contribution made to CATSNAP for the Adopt-a-Classroom program provides an elementary teacher and his or her class with 32 copies of KIND News and a teacher's guide every month of the school year. Teachers also receive KIND Teacher, a resource book of reproducible worksheets, KIND ID cards for the students, a classroom poster, and a calendar of fun facts and tips on helping people, animals, and the environment.

If you are a TEACHER and want to have your classroom sponsored, please email us.
