BELOW: PICTURE OF HER KNEE RIGHT AFTER SURGERY

Jaws is a precious and adorable 4 month old Russian Blue female. She was found alone and afraid. She was crying very, very loudly and was also hissing at the strange human approaching, Now, she is in foster care and is starting to realize that humans are her friends.

She isn't a biter, but her fight or flight response is still very strong. She wants to run away. When you pick her up, her nails hold onto you for dear life, but she will sleep and cuddle with you once you snuggle her safely. We now have her doing the elevator butt thing (where you rub her behind and she lifts it high). A fast moving hand will definitely startle her, so she would do best without young kids. She must also have another cat in the house. She will not do well without another kitty.

She is my very special "work in progress" who will need a home with other cats and plenty of TLC. Even though she is making progress daily, her transition into a new home will take a few weeks until she trusts her new family.

UPDATE: Jaws started limping during the first week of March. It turns out she has a condition where one of her kneecaps doesn't sit right and dislocates. When it is popped back in, it immediately dislocates again. Surgery will be $400, and tax-deductible donations for this poor girl are needed. Please indicate in the subject line "Jaws Knee surgery" where donating by check or paypal (to: catsnap@insightbb.com). If you would prefer to make a payment directly to the vet performing the surgery, please let us know. Surgery was performed on 3/10/06 by Dr. Dust at Heritage Animal Hospital, and it was very successful.

Bea, Bella & Beau

All 3 are beautiful and large tiger siblings. Bea is the longhaired one in the group. They were born in June 2005, so they are just young adults. They are healthy but constantly sneeze out boogers. It doesn't seem to be contagious. They have been fostered with a variety of other cats over the past 6 months, and they don't infect anyone. It's not an upper respiratory infection... just snot! We have had the snot cultured, and bordatella is what was initially found. We have treated the 3 with a variety of drugs that Bordatella is sensitive to, but they still occasionally sneeze and a big booger comes out.

Dexter

Dexter is an orphaned foster baby who was born about April 1, 2006. He was found with pneumonia and a severely injured eye. There is a good chance he will lose his eye, but we are still trying to save it. He is getting round the clock care at his foster home, so he is very bonded to people. In fact, we don't think he knows he is a cat! Dexter has extra toes on his front feet, so he looks like he's got a catcher's mit for front paws. He is a brown/grey tabby male who will be neutered before going to his forever home. Or, maybe you can't adopt him but would like to help offset his mounting medical bills?

 LOVEY

CATSNAP was asked to help find placement for an extraordinary cat, "Lovey," who was abandoned by her family. The problem is that she tested positive for feline leukemia (a cat-only virus) that can be spread to other cats. She needs to be an only cat, and we are looking for a place where she can live out the rest of her life. She is very affectionate and is spayed. We would be willing to provide some assistance with her future medical care. While the virus will probably result in her early death, there is no treatment, and she can have a good quality of life.  She would have to stay indoors at all times.  She would be a great addition to a dog-only household or to a family with another leukemia-positive cat.  More information on Feline Leukemia is available here.

EMERY

Emery is a very special 8 month old spayed female dog who was impounded as an injured stray. The staff at animal control knew Emery was very sweet and needed help. Even though CATsNAP primarily assists felines, Emery’s injuries required immediate attention and no other assistance was immediately forthcoming. We felt compelled to help this sweet and gentle dog. X-rays showed that she had a broken front leg that would need to be surgically repaired. She was placed into foster care so that she could get well enough to undergo surgery. It was during that time that one of her back legs started to swell. A second x-ray showed a compression fracture in her rear leg. A generous Urbana veterinarian has agreed to perform the multiple surgeries Emery requires at a much-reduced cost. Her final surgery is scheduled for the end of January.

Emery is still a pup. She would do well in basic obedience training. She would do well with kids or other dogs, but she will chase cats.
